The offside trap is a defensive tactic used by some managers. Usually applied during a set piece, the defensive line will charge upfield as the set piece taker runs up and, by the time he strikes the ball, all of the attackers should be offside. Using the offside trap requires great timing and coordination; one person missing his cue can result in all of the attackers being onside and outnumbering the defence hugely.
